West Loop is a dynamic and vibrant “foodie mecca“ located southwest of downtown Chicago. This formerly industrial area has become an upscale hotspot. Along the bustling streets are vintage row homes and mansions and new high-rises and skyscrapers with a mix of commercial and residential spaces. The roads are somewhat wider in West Loop, lending to a less congested feel.
West Loop is home to people from all walks of life who enjoy the swaggy and hip vibe of the community, its street art, its old cobblestone streets, and its outstanding restaurants. The community is very pedestrian and bike-friendly and offers excellent public transportation. The two large parks in the community, Skinner Park and Union Park, offer the residents lush open spaces for hiking, biking, walking, jogging, picnicking, and just enjoying the outdoors. Union Park is also the site of several local music festivals.

Many of the former industrial buildings and warehouses in West Loop have been converted into restaurants, shops, and residences. The restaurants feature incredible foods and delicacies from all over the world. You will find traditional Italian at Monteverde, Mediterranean cuisine on a rooftop patio at Aba, modern wood-fired cooking at Elske, the Chef’s special menu at Smyth, and modern Japanese at Momotaro. There are also some unique and trendy coffee shops in the West Loop, like Sawada Coffee in its industrial setting with a ping pong table and a punching bag, and Good Ambler, where you will find gorgeous chocolates and designer cakes. For good times with friends, go to the Tivoli Tavern for a great happy hour with an art gallery vibe. Their happy hour menu features oysters and a variety of sliders, and their dinner menu has comfort favorites such as chicken pot pie and coal-roasted chicken.
There are many unique and upscale shopping venues and boutiques in the West Loop, and the Randolph Street Market is a large flea market that is very popular with locals and treasure seekers. There’s J.P. Graziano, Whole Foods, and Mariano’s Fresh Market for groceries.
